Hoosiers look to snap Tennessee trend

Streaks aren’t new to the IU women’s tennis team, but a win Saturday at No. 22 Tennessee (4-1) would create a Hoosier streak that hasn’t existed in a while.

UPDATE: IU falls to Michigan State, 66-58

For the 13th straight time, the IU men’s basketball lost at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich. This time however, the Hoosiers went into halftime leading by 10, only to surrender 46 second-half points to Michigan State en route to a 66-58 defeat Saturday night.

Junior sprinter readies IU for Big Ten meet

For the men’s track and field team to win the Big Ten indoor championships this weekend, it will need more than talent and a home facility advantage. It will need leadership and motivation. Thankfully the team has been getting these two things in heavy doses all year from not only their coaches, but junior sprinter Doug Dayhoff.

Late run leads to Hoosier victory

The IU men’s basketball needed something to go its way during Wednesday night’s game against Minnesota. Shots fell and rebounds bounced their way, but the Hoosiers clung to a small lead that they could not increase.

Illinois basketball player charged with felonies in recent crash

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois basketball player Jamar Smith – charged Tuesday with drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident – apparently believed a teammate in the car had died, authorities said. Smith, 19, was driving a 1996 Lexus shortly after 11 p.m. on Feb. 12 when it struck a tree in heavy snow. He then drove the car a little over a mile to the apartment complex where he lived in the small town of Savoy.

The disappointment was obvious. After the Hoosiers’ loss to Michigan last Saturday, IU coach Kelvin Sampson and his squad made a long walk out of Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich. Nobody said much, but the silence spoke louder than any words could.

Hoosiers tie for top spot in weekend tournament

The men’s golf team started its spring season off with a win this weekend in Guadalajara, Mexico at the Club de Golf Santa Anita Classic two-day tournament. The men tied Houston after three rounds, shooting a combined total of 896 (305-287-304). “It was a little disappointing,” coach Mike Mayer said of the tie. “I thought we could’ve played a little better.”

MESA, Ariz. – Jacque Jones was smiling when he showed up Saturday at the Chicago Cubs’ spring-training facility. The debate all winter in Chicago wasn’t whether Jones would play right field or center field for the Cubs, it was whether he’d play for the Cubs at all.
