TOUGH TICKET$

·

IU sophomore Matt Barr has some big requests for IU basketball. Very simply, he'd like new facilities, top recruits, a successful, respected coach and a winning team. Anything else? Well, he'd like cheaper, closer seats. Maybe a student section, too. Is that too much to ask?

Signs of change

·

About 80 Little 500 riders spoke in unanimous opposition to an IU Student Foundation initiative that would prohibit nonstudent coaches from being in the pits on race day. Almost 60 riders attended a meeting Wednesday and about 20 attended a meeting Thursday to address the IUSF "Student Coaching Initiative." The rider's forums were hosted by alumni coaches -- individuals coaching Little 500 teams who are not undergraduate Bloomington students. The IUSF initiative only permits undergraduate Bloomington campus students to coach in the pits on race day. The new rule takes effect for the race this spring.

Fittingly, Dumars slips into Hall of Fame

·

DETROIT - Joe Dumars is going into the Basketball Hall of Fame just as he played -- under the radar. Making all the noise, drawing all the attention Friday night will be two other inductees -- Charles Barkley and Dominique Wilkins. Barkley, no doubt, will have the most entertaining speech. Wilkins will monopolize the highlight tapes.

Davydenko makes Open semifinals

·

NEW YORK -- He plays more tennis than anyone around, so a five-set test of wills lasting more than 3 1/2 hours seemed a fitting way for Nikolay Davydenko to work his way into the U.S. Open semifinals. Maybe now he'll get some more attention.
