Hoosiers end 11-game road trip at Xavier University

Since conference play started, the mid-week non-conference games have been a struggle for the IU baseball team. Two weeks into the Big Ten schedule, the Hoosiers have lost both weekday games and have gone on to drop three of four games to conference opponents that weekend.

Blame the dream job

This one hurt. Just when the IU faithful thought the women's basketball program had received a wave-up from the bouncer guarding the door at the club of emerging basketball programs, we were promptly given the boot once we reached the front of the line.

Relaxed IU hosts Kentucky

Stuck on a five-game losing streak, the IU softball team decided to play a new game in practice yesterday -- kickball. The game of kicks was not just for kicks, though. The team's members said they hope yesterday's loose practice atmosphere will go a long way to break the current slide the Hoosiers are on.

Versyp expects to win 'the big one' with Boilermakers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Sharon Versyp immediately set high expectations on her first day at Mackey Arena as Purdue's new women's basketball coach. Versyp, a four-year starter for the Boilermakers, met Monday with her new team, arriving at Purdue after one year as the head coach at rival Indiana. "We are going to make this ride extremely special and we're going to have a lot of fun," Versyp said. "This is a top-10 program, and we're going to win the big one."

Attorneys: DNA doesn't match

DURHAM, N.C. -- DNA testing failed to connect any members of the Duke University lacrosse team to the alleged rape of a stripper, attorneys for the athletes said Monday. Citing DNA test results delivered by the state crime lab to police and prosecutors a few hours earlier, the attorneys said the test results prove their clients did not sexually assault and beat a stripper hired to perform at a March 13 team party. No charges have been filed in the case. "No DNA material from any young man was present on the body of this complaining woman," said defense attorney Wade Smith.

Hoosiers drop 3 of 4 in Evanston to Wildcats

Cold and windy conditions kept scoring to a minimum, and the Northwestern pitching staff held down the Hoosier bats in the teams' first game of their weekend series Saturday. Northwestern starting pitcher Ryan Myers gave up six hits, two runs (one earned), over 6 1/3 innings, walking five and striking out seven. Myers out-pitched IU senior starter Josh Lewis (2-5) who gave up six hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out three and walking four.

IU cruises to 1st title of season at Purdue

Beginning a critical stretch of the season in a tournament loaded with potential Big Ten champions probably wasn't the most-likely place for the young IU golf team to record its first title, but that's exactly what happened. Despite a freshman class that at one point held Golfstat's top ranking, a two-time Big Ten Golfer of the Week winner in freshman Jorge Campillo and a handful of top-five finishes, IU had yet to take home top honors entering this past weekend's Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette.

Miss-n-Out on the fun

Kappa Kappa Gamma rider Jess Sapp was in familiar position. As a sophomore in 2004, Sapp made the final round of Miss-n-Out, a light-hearted round-by-round elimination race, but finished third behind Teter rider Bri Kovac. Sapp used lessons from that race to outlast Bella Veloce rider Abby Cooper and Kappa Delta rider Lauren Ziemba to win Saturday afternoon.

The IU men's track and field team held its first meet of the outdoor season Saturday with the Indiana Relays. In its third consecutive year, the competition saw five Hoosiers attain regional qualifying standards in their respective events. After bad weather canceled Friday's events, the IU men's squad hit the track Saturday in cold and windy conditions. Despite the unfavorable weather, the team dominated the field with five personal bests.

IU joins local community in volunteer drive

Hoosiers going strong despite tough weather

Report: Vaden leaving IU

Sophomore Robert Vaden will be leaving the IU men's basketball program and joining Mike Davis at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, a report Friday in the Birmingham News. Davis' son, Mike Jr., put the ongoing speculation to rest at UAB's press conference Friday when he told the Birmingham News Vaden would be following the Davis' to Birmingham, the report said. Vaden first expressed his desire to transfer after Mike Davis' resignation. "If my coach is gone, I'm gone," Vaden said after the Feb. 17 press conference. "I already made (my decision). I'm not coming back." Last season, Vaden was the Hoosiers' second-leading scorer with 13.5 points a game and led the team in assists, averaging 3.5 a game. It remains unclear whether or not sophomore D.J. White - also rumored to possibly be transferring - will stay at IU or follow Mike Davis and Vaden to UAB. Check back for further updates.

Former IU coach Davis accepts UAB job

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Former IU coach Mike Davis took over UAB's basketball program Friday, returning to his home state after a rocky tenure with the Hoosiers. The 45-year-old Davis, a native of Fayette who played for Alabama, replaces Mike Anderson, who left the Blazers to become coach at Missouri.

UPDATE: Women's basketball coach leaves IU for Purdue

IU women's basketball coach Sharon Versyp resigned today to accept a head coaching position at her alma mater, Purdue. In Versyp's first and only year with the Hoosiers, she led the team to a 19-14 record and 9-7 in the conference. The team also made its first postseason tournament since 2002 when the Hoosiers advanced to the Women's National Invitation Tournament quarterfinals.

Catching up with Coach Yeagley

Wednesday night, Yeagley was in the stands, shaking hands and laughing with old friends while watching the IU soccer team take on the Cincinnati Kings in an exhibition match.
