IU women's golf coach Clint Wallman was excited for his Hoosier team to compete at the Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz. Fortunately, the Hoosiers were up to the test as they rallied to finish 12th in the 15-team field.

Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett dies

MINNEAPOLIS -- Kirby Puckett died Monday, a day after the Hall of Fame outfielder had a stroke at his Arizona home. He was 45. Puckett died at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix. He had been in intensive care since having surgery at another hospital following his stroke Sunday morning. The bubbly, barrel-shaped Puckett carried the Twins to World Series titles in 1987 and 1991 before his career was cut short by glaucoma. His family, friends and former teammates gathered at the hospital Monday.

Hoosiers win in Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- With tournament hopes on the line, IU played the role of Senior Day spoiler for the second game in row. The Hoosiers upended Michigan 69-67 on the Wolverines' Senior Day just three days after IU traveled to West Lafayette to taint Purdue's senior festivities.

Tournament hopes brighten with road wins

For the past several weeks, IU coach Mike Davis has been quick to respond to questions about the NCAA Tournament. No sooner than the question is asked, Davis usually insists that the team is simply focusing on the next game.

Hoosiers swept for 2nd straight week

The IU baseball team was swept in a three-game series for the second consecutive weekend, this time at the hands of the No. 24 Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes and a pitching staff that held down the Hoosiers' bats nearly all weekend.

Hoosiers open Big Ten season with home win

The IU women's tennis team earned its 10th win of the season in its Big Ten opener Sunday against Penn State, winning 6-1. On Saturday at the Indiana Tennis Center, the Hoosiers fell to No. 6 North Carolina, 5-2.

WANTED: KILLer instinct

Big Ten beware: Several reports have cited a 6-foot-8, 270-pound man terrorizing several cities throughout the Midwest. Known as the "Killer," he appears to have no tregard for those who cross his path - no matter what size. Most recently, he tortured 255-pound Graham Brown of Michigan for 19 points and 13 rebounds. His coach, Mike Davis, called it his best game. He only appears to be getting stronger.

IU swim team wins array of awards

Throughout their championship season, the Indiana men's swimming and diving team constantly reiterated that it is always about the team, and never the individual. So when the Hoosiers nearly swept the Big Ten end of the year awards given at the finale of the championships Saturday, one should not be surprised to hear them put the team first yet again.

When the referee lifted IU senior wrestler Joe Dubuque's hand after a 2-0 victory against Kyle Ott of Illinois last March, it wasn't just any victory. The win gave Dubuque a national title in the 125-pound division -- IU's first individual wrestling national championship since 1990.

Football player arrested

IU Police Department officers arrested IU freshman football wide receiver James Bailey early Monday morning under suspicion of trespassing, intimidation and conversion -- a lesser theft charge -- said IUPD Lt. Jerry Minger, reading from the police report.
