No hangover here

·

After going toe to toe with the top team in the country, it had to be hard for the Hoosiers to focus on their game with Eastern Michigan Saturday night. And in Bloomington, the hangover capital of the world, no one could blame them if they came out uninspired, flat and undisciplined. But they didn't.

Colts make it a dozen straight with 35-3 win

·

INDIANAPOLIS -- If there was any worry about a letdown or a "trap game" after Monday night's emotional win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Colts quickly quieted these fears with a 35-3 win over the Tennessee Titans Sunday. "I don't believe in 'trap games,' especially in the NFL. These athletes are just too good," said Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, who had three touchdowns and 187 yards on 13 of 17 passing attempts as Indy moved to 12-0.

Final relay pushes IU past Wildcats

·

The No. 18 IU women's swimming and diving team surged past the Northwestern Wildcats with an emphatic relay win in the final race of the meet to clinch a 159-141 victory Friday in Evanston, Ill. The Hoosiers now boast a 5-2 record (3-1 Big Ten) on the season. "The women's meet went down to the last relay," IU coach Ray Looze said. "I was very pleased with our tenacity ... Northwestern is very good in dual meets. I was pleased with the calm under pressure that our team showed."

School record broken in win against No. 17 Northwestern

·

Junior Colin Russell broke a school record in the 200-yard freestyle this weekend as the No. 11 Indiana men's swimming and diving team defeated No. 17 Northwestern, 161-139. Russell's record-breaking time of 1:35:50 also qualified him for the NCAA Championships March 23 to 25 in Atlanta. "I was so close the past two years," Russell said. "It felt great just to know it's out of the way and I don't have to worry about it."

Hoosiers split road contests

·

The IU women's basketball team fell just short of accomplishing something it had not done since the 2000-01 season this weekend. After beating Belmont Tuesday and Southern Illinois Friday, the Hoosiers (3-4) were poised to win three straight road games for the first time in five seasons. On Sunday, Louisville refused to cooperate, beating the Hoosiers 72-67 at Freedom Hall.

Enjoy your cake, coach

·

After a 75-67 win over Eastern Michigan Saturday night, IU coach Mike Davis embraced hugs and handshakes from his players. His wife, Tamilya, even promised him a cake. But it wasn't just because the Hoosiers tallied their fourth win of the season, and it certainly wasn't because they beat a mid-major school. When the final buzzer rang, Davis became the fourth coach in IU history to hit the 100 victory mark and the second fastest behind Bob Knight. It took Knight five seasons and Davis until the start of his sixth.

Hoosiers' Nguyen to turn pro

·

Last summer, Lee Nguyen played in Enschede, Holland, on the United States' under-20 national team in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championships. He was the only high schooler on the roster of college-age players. The IU freshman might now return to the site of his last international match to begin his professional career. "I talked with all of my teammates and they agreed with the time," said Nguyen, who recently signed with an agent. "Going pro is all about timing. I gotta pick the right time and I think this is it."

ESPN suspends Irvin for 1 week following arrest

·

DALLAS -- Michael Irvin says he has been suspended by ESPN for one week for not telling the network about his arrest last week, when police found a drug pipe hidden in his car during a traffic stop. Irvin, who has maintained that the pipe belonged to a friend, told The Associated Press Thursday that he won't return to the air until Dec. 11. He was arrested Friday in Plano, Texas, for an outstanding warrant on an unpaid speeding ticket but was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia after police searched his car.

No. 15 Hoosiers head to Northwestern

·

The No. 15 IU women's swimming and diving team will head to Evanston, Ill., at 4 p.m. Friday to battle the Northwestern Wildcats in hopes of winning its final dual meet of the semester. The Hoosiers (4-2) will hit the road for the first time since beating Minnesota in enemy territory Oct. 29. Senior Lauren Torpey said the pairing of IU and Northwestern is an "unspoken rivalry" because Jimmy Tierney, Northwestern's head coach, is IU head coach Dorsey Tierney-Walker's brother.

Dungy says Colts aren't perfect

·

INDIANAPOLIS -- So many elements of the Indianapolis Colts are working perfectly that coach Tony Dungy is having a tougher time than usual finding things to fix. But there are problems that need solved, he said. There's a lot to like about the undefeated Colts.

Hoosiers will rest regulars during weekend's Open

·

On Nov. 27, IU placed 13 wrestlers at the Mat Town Invitational. For the University of Northern Iowa Open this Sunday, the No. 16 Hoosiers already know they will not have as many grapplers place. That is because IU is using this weekend to rest up and will not be sending as many wrestlers to compete. IU coach Duane Goldman said the Hoosiers will not be sending any of their regular starters to the Open, but rather will send a few backups to represent the team.

IU looks to return to transition game

·

It's not often that a coach goes back to the drawing board before a game against an opponent with a 1-2 record, but IU coach Mike Davis fully plans on it before Saturday night's home game against Eastern Michigan. After Wednesday's close loss to Duke, Davis felt his team played well with the exception of the first five minutes, but he expressed concerns about his squad abandoning its commitment to scoring in transition.

After claiming its first win of the season away from Assembly Hall Tuesday, the IU women's basketball team (2-3) will play two more road games this weekend versus Southern Illinois and Louisville. On Tuesday night, the Hoosiers claimed their first road victory of the season at Belmont, winning 68-50. IU showed off a balanced scoring attack against the Bruins with four players in double-digits, led by senior guard Cyndi Valentin's 18 points.

Despite Marco's 34, IU can't hold off No. 1 Duke

·

Senior forward Marco Killingsworth won the battle on the inside, but IU couldn't capitalize. Killingsworth put up a career high 34 points and 10 rebounds in the Hoosiers 75-67 loss at Assembly Hall Wednesday night, outshining Duke forward Shelden Williams, who went for 13 points and nine rebounds. "I feel I was out there to prove myself," Killingsworth said. "He might have been guarding me like I was just another guy."

Packers look to spoil Bears' run

·

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- It's gut-wrenching for Green Bay Packers coach Mike Sherman to talk about missing the playoffs, but at least his team can try to derail the Chicago Bears' playoff plans. "In our situation right now, we're not going to be in the playoffs. That's out of the picture," Sherman said Wednesday. "We certainly can revel in being the spoiler."

Killingsworth's career game can't carry IU

·

Wednesday morning the name Marco Killingsworth only really resonated with fans in Indiana and Alabama. Today, however, is a different story. The senior transfer exploded onto the national scene Wednesday night, scoring a career-high 34 points in a nationally televised 75-67 loss to No. 1 Duke. The Blue Devils entered the game with the defending defensive player of the year set to guard Killingsworth, but they spent the entire night searching for answers.
