Wild Women of Midwest flock to Bloomington

Calamity Jane, the IU women's ultimate frisbee club team, will play host to the Wild Women of the Midwest tournament this weekend. The tournament will start 10 a.m. Saturday and continue at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Evan Williams Field on the corner of 10th Street and the 45/46 Bypass and at North Fee Lane Fields at 17th Street and Fee Lane.

Hoosiers look for 7 straight wins at OSU

If the IU men's tennis team wants to keep its streak alive, players are going to have to earn it. Winners of their last six matches, the Hoosiers will face what could be their toughest test in a month, when they travel to Columbus, Ohio, to face the No. 33-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. IU will look to continue its strong play from top to bottom, a balance that has keyed the Hoosiers' surge in recent weeks.

Players welcome new IU assistant

The IU men's soccer team announced the hiring of a new volunteer assistance coach Tuesday on the heels of the team hosting the Midwest Soccer Coaches Symposium this weekend. As the featured event to the symposium, IU plays St. Louis University in the team's third spring friendly at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Bill Armstrong Stadium. David Giffard joins IU after working for five years under former IU player and assistant coach Mike Getman at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

IU begins West Coast swing

The outdoor track season is finally in full swing, and the men's team is set to begin its quest for fast times on the West Coast beginning this weekend with the Pepsi Invitational in Eugene, Ore. After a rain-out in Florida and a blustery weekend in Bloomington, the team is itching for a solid opportunity to compete.

Hoosiers travel to historic track venue in Oregon

IU will compete at one of the most popular track and field venues hosted by one of the sport's most storied programs this weekend. The Hoosiers head out west for the Pepsi Invitational Saturday hosted by University of Oregon. The scored quadrangle meet will put IU against Oregon, University of Missouri and University of Washington.

Little Fifty event gives big race a 'run' for its money

Legs will start to make their way around the track in a warm-up to Little 500. But these legs are not peddling bicycles tomorrow, they are moving the bodies of the runners participating in the third-annual Little Fifty running race. Little Fifty involves teams comprised of four runners completing 50 laps at the Haugh Track and Field Complex. One runner from each team completes a lap, and then that runner is allowed to hand off with another teammate, similarly to how riders in the Little 500 make bike exchanges.

Hoosiers acquire more than expected with freshman duo

IU coach Bob Morgan visited Ballard High School in Louisville, Ky., looking for a utility infielder, David Trager. Trager's teammate, Chris McCombs, saw an opportunity and approached Morgan about watching a game he was pitching. Morgan agreed, and a year later the 6-foot right-hander has struck out 15 batters in eight appearances for the Hoosiers.

IU to reveal Bennett's replacement today

After more than a month of searching for the next women's basketball coach, the IU athletics department will announce the new coach today at 1:30 p.m. in the Hoosier Room in Memorial Stadium. The new coach will replace Kathi Bennett, who resigned as head coach in March after five seasons. In Bennett's time in Bloomington, she compiled a 72-75 record and led the Hoosiers to one NCAA tournament appearance in 2002.

For Phi Gamma Delta rain, cold and wind aren't enough to hinder a great performance. As rain struck during the 30th heat during Thursday's final Little 500 event, it was hard to see if there would be an end to the Spring Series Events.

Pacers keep winning, beating Lebron and Cavs 98-77 in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS -- Stephen Jackson scored 23 points and Reggie Miller 17 to lead Indiana to a 98-77 win against the slow-starting Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday. The game was never close after the Pacers went on a 20-7 run through most of the second quarter, during which Miller scored eight points, giving Indiana 46-29 lead.

Yankees pay more salary than bottom 5 MLB teams combined

NEW YORK -- Baseball's big-money boom pushed the average salary to a record $2.6 million on opening day, and the New York Yankees' payroll of just under $200 million topped five teams combined. Following a rare drop from 2003 to 2004, the average climbed 5.9 percent to $2.63 million, according to a study by The Associated Press.

Louisville downs IU in 9th

After holding the Louisville Cardinals scoreless for eight innings Wednesday evening, the IU women's softball team was edged 1-0 in the bottom of the ninth by a solo homerun in the first game of their five game road trip.

Top coaches battle it out as IU claims victory against in-state rival Indiana State, 6-4 at home

Coming off a weekend when the Hoosier baseball team lost three of four games, they rebounded Wednesday with a 6-4 victory against in-state rival Indiana State. IU coach Bob Morgan decided to change the lineup defensively for Wednesday's game and said it was a change the Hoosiers have had readily available for most of the season. "We had intentions of doing that for quite some time," Morgan said.

After leaving high school early, Underwood joins IU

While the seniors at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Louisville, Ohio, are busy picking out dresses and tuxes for prom, Dennis Underwood is worrying about shoulder pads and cleats. Underwood, a freshman running back, became the first member of IU football coach Terry Hoeppner's inaugural recruiting class to make it to Bloomington. Underwood decided instead of sticking it out in high school for one more semester, he would join IU and hit the ground running as he enrolled in January.

Miller says goodbye to Madison Square Garden with win

NEW YORK -- Stephen Jackson celebrated his birthday by scoring 33 points and the Indiana Pacers beat the New York Knicks 97-79 Tuesday night despite a poor shooting night from Reggie Miller in his final appearance at Madison Square Garden.

Seniors lose in final conference game

Saturday night, with cool winds, a muddy field and competing against the NCAA basketball men's Final Four for spectators, the IU rugby team lost a closer-than-expected match against its strongest rival, Purdue. The match began with two quick tries by Purdue in the first five minutes on turnovers by IU's backfield. IU came back with a try and a field goal by sophomore fullback Ryan Horan.
