No seniors, no problem for IU

·

Traditionally most teams' source of leadership comes from those who have been through adversity and carry the most experience -- the seniors. But for the No. 53 Hoosiers, that is not an option, as the team is without any seniors for the 2003-2004 campaign. Last season the Hoosiers were able to rely upon then-seniors Zach Held and Peter Novotny who helped guide IU to a 12-11 record and a final ranking of No. 44 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association standings.

Lost season?

·

The IU men's basketball team has lost its last four home Big Ten games by a combined total of nine points. The team's greatest home loss in the conference season came Saturday against Ohio State University (12-13, 4-8 Big Ten) by three points, 59-56. IU (12-12, 6-7) beat the Buckeyes back in Jan., 69-61, in Columbus, but Saturday, it was OSU's turn to do the celebrating. While its players celebrated the road win midcourt, the IU players walked to the locker room feeling emotions most IU teams rarely feel -- the emotions dealt with after a loss at Assembly Hall. "We come out so flat at home," sophomore guard Bracey Wright said. "It seems like we're just lost out there." Sophomore guard Ryan Tapak said the team doesn't have time to be down on itself and he doesn't understand why it's been so hard for the team to win at home.

DeMuth breaks 1,000

·

In a stellar 23 point, 12 rebound performance, IU junior Jenny DeMuth became the 18th IU player to reach the 1,000 point plateau and only the eighth Hoosier to do so in her junior season. DeMuth led the Hoosiers to a 65-52 win over Michigan. IU also managed to snap an seven game losing streak and improve their record to 11-14 and 4-10 in conference action. DeMuth's record breaking night placed her at No. 16 overall in IU's career scoring list with 1,015 total points, just two points behind Dani Thrush who stands at No. 15. Despite the feat, DeMuth downplayed the 1,000 point plateau. "I didn't even know about it until a few days ago when someone told me about it," DeMuth said. "But it feels good to get a thousand points. But I just think it's a team game." DeMuth wasn't the only one celebrating as the Hoosiers captured their first win since Jan. 22. Early in the game, the Hoosiers were looking at a 17-7 deficit before fighting back with a 29-7 run to place the score at 36-24.
