The Hoosiers avoided losing him after his freshman year, and IU marched to the national championship game in his second season.
IU's three-point bonanza against Illinois -- 17 of 27 from beyond the arc -- was amazing, but it wasn't a fluke.
ATLANTA -- The stereotype fits these Hoosiers, even if they didn't win the national championship.
LOS ANGELES -- After getting off to a great beginning, Barry Bonds said he's more concerned about the ending. He was speaking of his team, not himself. Coming off one of the greatest offensive seasons in baseball history but still without a World Series appearance, Bonds homered twice and drove in five runs Tuesday to lead the San Francisco Giants to a season-opening 9-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Jack Nicklaus, the most dominant player at Augusta National with six green jackets won over 23 years, withdrew Tuesday from the Masters because of lingering back problems. It will be only the second time since 1959 that Nicklaus has missed the Masters. He also skipped in 1999 when he was recovering from hip replacement surgery.

I feel funny. Something isn't right, and I haven't been able to figure out exactly what it is. This feeling started about three weeks ago, right around the end of spring break. And no, it wasn't alcohol poisoning. It started about the time the NCAA tournament started, specifically when IU began playing. Every February, the IU community hosts Spirit of Sport, which features non-stop sports competition, fitness activities, aquatic events, as well as special events and demonstrations. The IU women's softball team found no success in its Big Ten opening weekend. Yesterday, the Hoosiers dropped both doubleheader games to Northwestern 9-1 (six innings) in the first game and 4-3 (11 innings) in the second. Sunday's game's followed two losses to Iowa on Saturday. The Hoosiers are 9-14-1.
A controversial ruling by the IU Student Foundation last week questioned the eligibility of the men's Little 500 team, Team Major Taylor. The team challenged the IUSF ruling, which will be decided this week. If IUSF continues with their original decision on the matter, it will disqualify Team Major Taylor from the 2002 race. Speculation surrounds a rider who might have had too much riding experience to race in this intermural event.
ATLANTA -- IU will play in the national championship game tonight, but you couldn't tell Sunday.
