Coach Cam Cameron said it isn't often a college football coach gets 15 "excellent" practices out of his team during the spring. He also said his Hoosiers have a shot at making it 15-for-15 Saturday at the Red-White Spring Game. IU began spring practice March 21 and will conclude its spring training Saturday with the spring game, its final NCAA-allotted practice. Cameron said he has been pleased with what he's seen so far.
Eleven rookies. Eleven untested riders. There isn't a lot of Little 500 history for Delta Sigma Pi, Ashton and the Army ROTC. But the women of Row 9 said they are looking forward to making their mark in the 2001 race.
Less than one second separates these three teams in Row 9. But the teams will need to make a surge if they want to reach the front of the pack. The defending champion Cutters found themselves in 25th for the race and look to charge to the front with a new crop of riders.
The teams in Row 8 have seen their share of ups and downs during the Little 500 race. Each team lacks experience, but each team has high hopes.
Junior Kevin Vanes seems to be the leader of the bunch in Row 8. After finishing third at the individual time trials, he will have to work from the inside to get Acacia to the front pack.
As of April 9, the women's indoor track team is ranked sixth in the nation according to the Team Power Rankings. This weekend the Hoosiers will show their force at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn.
Coming off of a decisive victory Saturday, the men's track team will head south in hopes of continuing its success. This weekend, the Hoosiers will be a part of the Sea Ray Relays in Tennessee for the first time since the 1994-1995 season. Then, the men's team had two top-five finishers, including a win in the pole vault. That success could be repeated,
Like row 11, the teams in row 10 will enter the 2001 Little 500 with little experience. Cold and windy track conditions on qualifications day might have cost each team a chance to move into row 9, but each team said it feels confident it could grab a top-20 finish.
The Franklin Grizzlies can always blame Tuesday's 19-8 loss on the rain.

CHICAGO -- When World Wrestling Federation Chairman Vince McMahon announced Feb. 3, 2000, that he founded a new football league, curiosity surfaced. And when NBC became a co-owner of that league March 29, 2000, excitement for the inaugural season grew. But since the XFL began play Feb. 3, 2001, media have focused more attention on national ratings and other measures of success than the teams and players within the league.
The baseball team tackled Division III Franklin College Tuesday in Bloomington and faces Wright State of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference Wednesday in Dayton, Ohio. The midweek games against apparently meager teams should help the Hoosiers prepare for a four-game series against Northwestern this weekend, team members said.
If men's tennis coach Ken Hydinger had to sum up his tennis program, he would do it with one name: Ian Arons. "Ian has been a great guy for four years," Hydinger said of the senior. "He is one of those guys who comes to work everyday and has the maturity to see the big picture. He knows and wants what is good for the team and good for the program. He portrays what we want this program to be about. He is a person of ability and responsibility as well as a classic student-athlete."
CHICAGO -- The Chicago Enforcers were in a fight for their XFL playoff lives in the final regular season game Sunday night against the Orlando Rage. They won the fight.
Before Saturday's scored meet against Ball State, Cincinnati and Central Michigan, coach Randy Heisler said he needed his athletes to finish where they should. Iowa finished with 108 points, and Ball State scored 61 points.
Football coach Cam Cameron said the Hoosier offensive line is as strong as it ever has been. The Hoosiers return all five starters and Cameron has made some adjustments he believes will boost the Hoosiers' offense. But the offensive line couldn't hold back the defense, which made a strong showing at the team's third scrimmage Saturday. "(The offensive line) is one of the strengths of our team," Cameron said. "Our defensive line is really improved, but the offensive line is really going to be the strength of this team."
