The Detroit Rockers of the National Professional Soccer League drafted senior goalkeeper T.J. Hannig with its 38th pick in the annual amateur draft Wednesday. Hannig finished his final season with a 1.17 goals-against average and a .683 save percentage in 11 games.

After more than two months off, the men's tennis team will resume play with the Big Ten Indoor Singles Tournament, beginning Saturday at Michigan. The three-day event will feature the conference's best singles players and is often viewed as a prestigious tournament to win.

Wrestling coach Duane Goldman is well aware that his wrestlers will enter the Virginia Duals this weekend with an undefeated record. He knows how demanding the competition can be. He knows who will be in his starting lineup, and he said he believes they're prepared enough to walk away successful. He's just not sure who they've been preparing for.

The women's swim team is traveling Saturday to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes (1-7) at 1 p.m. It will be their first meet on the road this season, and head coach Dorsey Tierney said she welcomes the challenge.

Teams vie in indoor play

The men's track team hopes to defeat defending Big Ten champion Wisconsin during this year's indoor season, but first it must challenge rival Michigan in its first meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich. Michigan took first in five events during last week's unscored Jack Harvey Invitational. The Wolverines already have a meet under their belts, but coach Marshall Goss said his team is ready.

Hoosiers to face state rival in series

A well-rested hockey team, now with its all-time leading scorer back in the fold, will face off against Purdue in a conference home-and-home series this weekend. The action begins tonight at Purdue's home ice in Fishers before coming to Bloomington at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Frank Southern Center, 1965 S. Henderson Ave.

Team seeks redemption

A year ago, IU was embarrassed at Assembly Hall by then-No. 6 Penn State. The Hoosiers were outplayed in every facet of the game by the Big Ten's best team that season. In the 74-36 drubbing -- by far the worst performance of the year -- the Hoosiers shot an abysmal 21 percent from the floor and were outscored by 32 points in the second half.

Women rebound from loss

Minnesota stayed competitive with the women's basketball team Thursday, matching basket for basket with only a minute left. But they were already down by 10. And it was only the first half.

A different women's basketball team took the floor in Thursday night's win against Minnesota (7-8, 0-4 Big Ten). The Assembly Hall crowd was on its feet cheering the Hoosiers, as they routed the Golden Gophers, 92-64.

Hoosiers face Gophers in rematch

The faces are familiar. The match-ups won't change much. And the Hoosiers and coach Kathi Bennett, hope the result won't change, either. IU looks to complete the season sweep of Minnesota at 7:30 p.m. today in Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers held off the Gophers 79-76 a week ago in Minneapolis.

Hoosier lineup changes

Brad Lutsch, the hockey team's all-time leading scorer, made his return to the Frank Southern Center ice January 19, 1999, against Purdue University. In a Hollywood-style climax to his already incredible collegiate career, Lutsch netted a hat trick. Midway through the second period, hit a Purdue player so hard the helpless Boilermaker shattered the glass board and ended up in the second row of the bleachers.

Olympic diver comes home

After competing in the Sydney Summer Olympics in September, junior diver Sara Reiling said she is glad to be back home. "I want to find all my friends," she said. "I missed them." Although Reiling has been redshirted this season because of an injury and her late return to the program, she is still training for the future. Reiling said she hopes to be ready to compete in the Senior Nationals in April. Summer competition looms as a last resort. "I'm just trying to keep an open mind," she said. "I had surgery (on my wrist) in November, so hopefully I'll get back in shape from that."

Hoosiers' momentum sputters in loss

Two days after knocking off No. 1 Michigan State, the Hoosiers lost to unranked Michigan 70-64. Freshman forward Jared Jeffries scored 15 points to lead the Hoosiers. Junior forward Kirk Haston added 13 while freshman guard Andre Owens scored 10.

Fife not welcome on Michigan turf

With four seconds remaining on the game clock against Michigan Tuesday night, Tom Coverdale passed the ball outside to Kirk Haston. It was the same play IU used in Sunday's game against Michigan State. Haston took a look at the basket and shot the ball -- but this time, it bounced around the rim a few times before falling to the floor. The shot was no good.

Purdue All-American battles concussion

Purdue senior small forward Katie Douglas' head was probably still spinning Sunday when her team played IU. Just three days removed from a mild concussion suffered during her team's win against Iowa, Douglas was groggy, dizzy and hurting when she took the Assembly Hall floor.
