In some ways, the 1998 and 2000 men's soccer seasons are stark contrasts. For one, the 1998 squad coasted to the national championship with a 23-2 record. The 2000 team, on the other hand, slipped into the NCAA tournament with an at-large bid after ending the regular season on a three-game losing streak.

Women's basketball team breezes by Kent State

The Hoosiers and the Kent State Golden Flashes came into Tuesday's contest at Assembly Hall undefeated. The Hoosiers stormed to a 79-42 romp, handing Kent State (2-1) its worst defeat since the 1983-84 season, when it fell to West Virginia by a 38-point margin.

Hoosiers look to bounce back from 2 losses

Sophomore guard Kyle Hornsby said the Hoosiers like to think they're "supposed to" beat everybody. Last year, IU was "supposed to" beat Indiana State in the championship game of the Ameritech/Indiana Classic and lost 63-60, giving the Sycamores their first win in the series since 1924. It was the first time since the tournament began in 1974 that the Hoosiers did not win the championship. The two teams will meet again at 8 p.m. today in the Hulman Center in Terre Haute, Ind.

Freshman guard shines on defense

NEW YORK -- Freshman guard Andre Owens scored 13 points combined in IU's first two games. In the third game, he came off the bench to lead the Hoosiers with 16 points.

Hockey team upsets top Division I teams

Coming off a three-game losing streak, including a sweep by Life University at the Frank Southern Center, the Hoosiers bounced back to upset two top-ranked Division I teams.

The IU men's soccer team will compete against top-seeded North Carolina at 1 p.m. Saturday in Chapel Hill, N.C., in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament, the NCAA announced Monday.

Playing four games during the course of the week, the women's basketball team didn't enjoy the luxury of time off this holiday break. But they had plenty to be thankful for. They've leaped to their first 5-0 start since the 1994-95 season.

NEW YORK -- As interim head coach Mike Davis walked off the court at Madison Square Garden at halftime with IU down 42-22 against Texas, he was looking at the floor and loosening his tie. He was clearly frustrated with a team playing one of its worst halves of basketball, making only six shots from the field.

SEATTLE -- Marcus Chorvat had a busy night Saturday in Seattle. Against Washington in NCAA men's soccer tournament, the sophomore midfielder scored a goal, got ejected and said plenty of prayers. In that order.

Team splits final matches

Losses to Penn State and Ohio State dented the volleyball team\'s postseason hopes. Friday\'s five-match loss to Purdue sealed the Hoosiers\' fate and handed the Boilermakers the 2000 Monon Spike Match win.

NEW YORK - Freshman guard Andre Owens came off IU's bench to lead the Hoosiers with 16 points, but it wasn't enough as IU lost to Temple 69-61 in the semi-finals of the National Invitation Tournament Wednesday.

Solid defense and excellent free-throw shooting down the stretch lifted Kathi Bennett and the Hoosiers to their third straight win in a 69-58 victory Wednesday against South Carolina.

Hoosiers head to the Garden

Sophomore guard Tom Coverdale has always wanted to play a basketball game on the floor of Madison Square Garden. Coverdale will live out that dream when the Hoosiers face Temple at 7 p.m. Wednesday in New York. IU advanced by defeating South Alabama in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament Friday. Should the Hoosiers win, they'll play in the NIT finals at 9 p.m. Friday. If they lose, they'll play in the consolation game at 7 p.m. Friday.
