Hoosiers send 26 to NCAA Regionals

Andy Bayer and Derek Drouin, defending national champions in the 1,500-meter and the high jump, respectively, will be joined by 24 of their teammates May 23-25 in Greensboro, N.C., for the NCAA East Preliminaries, the regional qualifier for the NCAA Championships.

Final qualifier ready for anything to happen at Indy 500

For Katherine Legge, a last minute entry as the driver of the No. 81 Angie’s List car, “anything” meant racing at the IMS for the first time in 2013, and despite missing out on eight days of practice that other drivers had, qualifying for the 2013 edition of The Greatest Spectacle in Racing as the final driver in the field of 33.

The Brazilian driver won a pole at Indianapolis in 2005 and has recorded five top-five finishes, but has yet to taste the traditional victor’s buttermilk at IMS after 11 attempts. His lack of a breakthrough win, however, has done nothing to diminish his popularity among fans in Indianapolis.

Baseball wins first outright title since 1932

The Hoosiers captured their first outright Big Ten regular season title since 1932 with an 8-1 victory Saturday at Bill Davis Stadium’s Nick Swisher Field by scoring six runs through the first three innings.

Two-thirds of the 33 drivers who attempted to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 on Saturday at Pole Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway are from foreign countries, yet it was Indy’s own Ed Carpenter who claimed pole position.

Hoosiers finish 13th at NCAA Regional

After carding a four-man score of 318 Saturday at the NCAA Regional in Fayetteville, Ark., the IU men’s golf team saw its season come to an end, as it finished 13th out of 14 teams with a plus 67 for the 54 holes played Thursday through Saturday.

Schwarber named to Team USA

Sophomore catcher Kyle Schwarber has been named to USA Baseball’s 2013 Collegiate National Team, IU baseball announced in a press release Wednesday.

On May 4, Rich Holdeman became the sixth non-player to be inducted in the ACHA Hall of Fame in Naples, Fla., and  first from Division II.

The Hoosiers find themselves in Fayetteville, Ark., Thursday through Saturday for the NCAA Regional at The Blessing Golf Club. It is their sixth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Regional.
