Volleyball hopes to add third-straight title

The IU women’s volleyball team (5-1) will attempt to win three straight invitational championships this season as the Hoosiers take an hour-long drive north to play in the Butler Invitational this weekend.

Freshman IU volleyball player Katie Gallagher has begun this fall's season filling in for senior three-year starter and team captain Whitney Granado as she recovers from a case of mononucleosis.

David Cooper and Jacarri Alexander did not take typical paths toward playing football at the Big Ten level. Instead of enrolling at IU straight out of high school, both took alternative routes ending in Bloomington.

The Indiana State Sycamores, a member of the Football Championship Subdivision and the Missouri Valley Conference, were supposed to be a proverbial punching bag for Wilson’s Hoosiers, a tune-up for the grind of conference play.

Hoosiers defeat Indiana State, 24-17

In their first game of the year Saturday night, the Hoosiers defeated in-state Football Championship Subdivision opponent Indiana State 24-17 to open the 2012 season 1-0.

Women's soccer team struggles in trip to California

It was not the weekend the IU women’s soccer team originally expected. The Hoosiers were vying to return from California with two wins against UC Santa Barbara and No. 5 Pepperdine. Instead, they flew back to Indiana with a tie and a shutout loss.

The IU women’s volleyball team won its second straight invitational last weekend, defeating Cleveland State and Georgia Tech en route to the Indiana Invitational championship.
