MacTaggart earns weekly accolades for 2nd time

Junior Josh MacTaggart performed well this past week, and it’s been noted by the Big Ten. MacTaggart was awarded the Big Ten Men’s Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday after going 3-0, beating Northwestern, Vincennes and No. 20 Illinois.

After IU Coach Tracy Smith’s team lost catcher Wes Wilson to graduation after the 2011 season, Smith thought Ty Downing would step in to the starter’s role this season. But Downing, a Bowling Green, Ky., native, felt homesick and decided to transfer during the semester break.

Dozens of IU student-athletes ditched cleats and jerseys for loafers and dresses Monday night during the second annual Spirit of Indiana Showcase at the IU Auditorium. The awards show honors student-athletes for accomplishments on and off the field during the 2011-12 sports seasons. Student-athletes voted on some awards, while the Athletics Department selected others.
