Hoosiers add 2 more Big Ten honors to list

Senior midfielder Alec Purdie earned his second Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors after he netted the only goal of IU’s victory against No. 16 Penn State. The senior leads the team with five goals.Junior goalkeeper Luis Soffner also earned his second Big Ten Player of the Week honors. His net has been untouchable in the last three games. He’s made 33 saves on the season and the Northwestern victory recorded his fourth season shutout.

Linebacker on 1967 Rose Bowl team a 2011 Hall of Fame inductee

A three-year starter at IU, Sniadecki garnered All-Big Ten, AP All-America and UPI All-America honors.Sniadecki was a junior on the 1967 team that shared a Big Ten title with Minnesota and Purdue and faced off against USC in the Rose Bowl. Fourty-four years after that season began, Sniadecki will be inducted into the Indiana Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday.

First half dooms team despite 4th quarter comeback

A 21-point rally in the fourth quarter Saturday couldn’t win the game for the Hoosiers (1-3), and they fell to North Texas (1-3), 24-21. They also scored 21 in the fourth quarter against Virginia on Sept. 10 and lost 34-31.

Saturday, after entering the game with 6:50 to play, Dusty Kiel led a pair of swift touchdown drives, pulling the Hoosiers to within three points before running out of time.

Column: There’s not much to say about this one

It was one of the oddest football games I’ve ever seen, and while IU came back (as it did against Virginia) and almost won at the end, it was another embarrassing loss — this time, 24-21 to North Texas.

A late-game quarterback switch and comeback were not enough for the Hoosiers to come back from a 24 point deficit Saturday as IU dropped their final non-conference game of the season to North Texas 24-21.
