The IU women’s tennis team opens its 2011 season this weekend at home with the adidas Hoosier Classic. The three-day tournament includes University of Georgia, Notre Dame, Kansas State and Abilene Christian.
After a four-game road trip during the last two weeks, the Hoosiers will return home to take on No. 15 Northwestern at 3 p.m. Friday at the IU Field Hockey Field.
IU Coach Tom Crean looked out onto the sea of light blue that illuminated an otherwise dark, rainy Thursday evening and did something that was not in his job description.
Against ranked opponents this season, the IU men’s soccer team has seen only zeros. IU Coach Todd Yeagley’s team has played then-No. 12 Notre Dame and then-No. 14 St John’s to 0-0 ties.
Edward Wright-Baker might be starting to capitalize on his talent.
Three games into his reign as IU’s starting quarterback, sophomore Edward Wright-Baker can still list improvements he needs to make.
The winning tradition began in 1982 with a coach, a forward and a national title.
IU Coach Amy Robertson helped create the field hockey varsity program at IU. Since then, the recruiting has been solely out of state. With no major field hockey programs in the state of Indiana, the players come from all parts of America, including California, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Coming into the season, all the talk about the IU men’s soccer team surrounded the team’s loss of Will Bruin. It almost seemed like onlookers forgot about defense. The Hoosiers certainly didn’t. The No. 7 Hoosiers (5-0-2) begin their Big Ten season Friday at home against Penn State as they continue to play lockdown defense.
Three weeks of college football have come and gone. With conference play almost underway, let’s take a minute to look at some teams that have stood out thus far.
IU Coach Kevin Wilson touched on a number of topics in his weekly press conference Tuesday.
Junior running back Darius Willis will miss the remainder of the 2011 season, a source with knowledge of the situation told IDS football columnist Justin Albers Tuesday.
Since the Hoosiers left South Bend, they have been the team many envisioned at the beginning of the season. The slow start has since become a distant memory after their solid performance in the first seven games.
Eighteen IU athletes will be inducted into the IU Athletics Hall of Fame 2011 class on Sept. 30.

Coming into the season, IU Coach Todd Yeagley said he wasn’t sure what to expect from his team. Seven games in, most of those questions have been answered.
After leading the Hoosiers with 102 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown in Saturday’s victory against South Carolina State, true freshman running back D’Angelo Roberts was announced Monday as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Hoosier Nation’s blossoming love affair with Twitter has manifested itself into a simple, yet impactful hashtag: #iubb. Sure, it’s just four letters representing Indiana University basketball, but understand that the seemingly insignificant creation and subsequent popularity of #iubb is something not seen within any other basketball program’s online community, to my knowledge.
Senior safety Chris Adkins received a call from Co-Defensive Coordinator Doug Mallory after South Carolina State wide receiver Tyler McDonald scampered 69 yards for a touchdown Saturday. Since his Co-Defensive Coordinator Mike Ekeler is on the field, Mallory has to ring the field to speak to his players after such plays. The play against South Carolina State was the longest play against IU since Wisconsin wide receiver Jared Abbrederis caught a 74-yard touchdown on Nov. 13, 2010. Mallory pointed out that 130 of the Bulldogs’ 216 passing yards came on three plays (of 69, 23 and 38 yards) — all of which were to McDonald, a stat that Mallory said “just kills you.”
