The Hoosiers emerged victorious for the first time in 2011, defeating South Carolina State 38-21 at Memorial Stadium to give Wilson his first victory as a college head coach.

IU committed a school-record 20 penalties for 176 yards. That’s absolutely inexcusable, especially at home. The Hoosiers were playing a lot of youngsters on the offensive line, but IU Coach Kevin Wilson has talked time and again about not making the same mistake twice.

After losses to Ball State and Virginia, IU Coach Kevin Wilson and the Hoosiers defeated Football Championship Subdivision opponent South Carolina State 38-21 Saturday.

Hoosiers fall in Big Ten opener to Michigan

Junior Orianica Velasquez fired away, but no one was there to send it home. That was a costly missed opportunity for the Hoosiers. Michigan went on to win the match 1-0 on a goal by Wolverine sophomore Shelina Zadorsky that hit the underside of the crossbar on its way in.

IU struggles in Illinois tourney

Despite the amount of solid shots and putts, the numbers were not what the IU men’s golf team wanted in the end. The Hoosiers finished 12th at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club, facing a field that included 10 of the Preseason Top-25. The team fell from sixth place in the first round to eighth place after the second, with a final 892-team tournament total.

Hoosiers fend off No. 15 Ohio University, win 3-2

The Hoosiers went into Athens, Ohio and came out victorious. After keeping a 3-0 lead, IU allowed two goals during the second half, but still managed to top No. 15 Ohio University, 3-2. Senior back Brenna Moeljadi scored twice with senior Jaclyn Zamudio netting her third goal of the season.

IU wins, then drops two-straight matches in California tournament

It was a weekend of ups and downs for the IU women’s volleyball team, but libero Caitlin Cox remained a model of consistency as the senior earned another All-Tournament team selection in San Diego. IU Coach Sherry Dunbar said there was a level of excitement in Cox’s face to play against the best competition IU has seen thus far. The Hoosiers won one match before dropping the next two in the University of San Diego tournament.

IU men's soccer remains undefeated, 5-0-2

Entering weekend play IU goalkeeper Luis Soffner had been playing well. His success didn’t change, as he posted two shutouts to help keep the Hoosiers undefeated. The No. 9 Hoosiers (5-0-2) played to their second scoreless tie of the season with No. 14 St. Johns on Friday and Sunday defeated Rutgers 2-0.

IU women place 1st, men 2nd in weekend meet

Sitting their top six runners, the men’s cross country team scored 40 points but fell five points short of Purdue’s 35 Friday afternoon. The women, on the other hand, ran away from the competition, scoring 19 to beat Butler by 44 points in the Indiana Intercollegiate in Bloomington.

The Hoosiers need only to look within their conference’s recent history for a reminder to not overlook Football Championship Subdivision teams such as South Carolina State.
