Outfielder Alex Dickerson, the former Big Ten Player of the Year for IU, signed a professional baseball contract July 15 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, officially foregoing his senior season with the Hoosiers.

12th football recruit commits to IU

Indianapolis Lawrence Central center Wes Rogers committed to the IU football  team July 10. He is the Hoosiers’ sixth verbal pledge for the 2012 class from in-state and 12th overall.

This past winter, when Derek Jeter was negotiating his new contract, the Yankees were prepared for this sobering reality. IU football signs transfer running back

It’s been a busy off-season for the IU football team. On July 7, the Hoosiers announced they signed Stephen Houston, a running back from a community college in Kansas. He has three years of eligibility left and will add depth to a position that saw multiple injuries last season.

Women's basketball announces new assistant coach

Even though it’s the off-season, the women’s basketball program is making big moves. On June 27, IU acquired former University of Tulsa head coach Charlene Thomas-Swinson. She will serve under IU women’s basketball coach Felisha Legette-Jack as assistant coach. She will take office on July 1.

BOSTON — Usually they’re the people behind the camera, with a single byline as their source of fame. But from June 22 to 25, sports editors from newspapers across the nation gathered in Boston for the 2011 Associated Press Sports Editors conference. The conference featured panels and workshops as well as two award ceremonies.

Ten IU track and field athletes competed this past weekend in the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The meet, held this year in the historic track town of Eugene, Ore., featured top competitors from around the country vying for a spot on the team that will travel to Daegu, South Korea for the World Championships at the end of August.
