IU moves to WNIT quarters

The Hoosiers captured a 75-67 victory against Bowling Green on Thursday night in the third round of the WNIT.

Arnett posts surprising start from the mound

By means of a dominant fastball and slider, the Pataskala, Ohio, native has quietly transformed into one of the most feared pitchers in the Big Ten. Arnett currently leads the Hoosiers in wins (4-1), ERA (2.57), strikeouts (35) and innings pitched (35).

Possessing ability within the diamond, even his teammates rave about him, dubbing him “Mr. Hands.” However, it will take more than one man to win games in the Big Ten. No one knows that more than Phegley heading into IU’s 3 p.m. Friday conference opener against Minnesota.

Hoosiers beat Bowling Green 75-67, stay alive in women's NIT tournament

The Hoosiers extended their season Thursday night with a 75-67 victory against Bowling Green in the third round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament. They will play in the round of 8 against the winner of tonight's Marquette-Illinois State game. For more information about the game, go to the IDS Above the Rim blog.

Win streak ends at 5

Defeat has not been in the Hoosier’s vocabulary since last month. No. 45 IU suffered its first loss in March yesterday when they dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 19 Louisville.

IU falls 7-6 in 11 innings

A walk-off home run in the 11th inning was the difference in the Hoosiers’ 7-6 loss to Xavier Wednesday in Cincinnati. It is IU’s seventh defeat in eight games. The mid-week loss dropped the team’s record to 7-14.

IU looks to rebound against Xavier

Any 7-13 team would be prone to panic – losing six of your last eight games can only further deplete an already anxiety-filled, partly shattered psyche. IU is relatively calm heading into its 3 p.m. game today against Xavier (10-6), despite the contest’s weight. It is the Hoosiers' final opportunity for improvement before the Big Ten season.

Lynch vows to make offense more productive

IU coach Bill Lynch vows to improve the Hoosier offense. Among his new implementations, Lynch said  the Hoosiers must gain respect in its running game. Bolstering the backfield attack will alleviate a lot of pressure off quarterbacks Kellen Lewis and Ben Chappell.

After losing six of its last eight games, IU will attempt to rebound today at 3p.m. against Xavier in Cincinnati. IU coach Tracy Smith will also face off with his former assistant, Xavier coach Scott Googins.

Hoosiers close in on tourney win

In what is considered a preview of the NCAA Championships, No. 6 IU has advanced to the semifinals of the Collegiate Match Play Championship in San Diego.

IU faces No. 15 Louisville

After falling to Minnesota at home this past weekend to open up the Big Ten season, the Hoosiers (3-21, 0-2) will look to sneak up on No. 15 Lousiville (26-3, 4-0) at  5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Cinderella takes a year off

Cinderella has taken the year off from the latest edition of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, and college basketball fans should be happy about that. With the exception of Wake Forest and Washington, the top four seeds in each region are alive and well after this weekend’s second-round action.

Ball State stuns Tennessee 71-55

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Ball State stunned the two-time defending national champions Tennessee 71-55 in the opening round of the NCAA tournament on Sunday night, snapping one of the more remarkable streaks in college basketball history.
