It has been more than two decades since Zaineb Istrabadi left Iraq and came to the United States. Now serving as a faculty member of the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, Istrabadi has chosen not to vote in Sunday's Iraqi parliamentary elections, although she is eligible.

Train wreck kills 10, wounds 200

GLENDALE, Calif. -- A commuter train smashed into an SUV left on the tracks by a suicidal man early Wednesday, sending the train careening off the rails in a wreck that killed 10 people and injured about 200, authorities said. Dozens of the injured were in critical condition.

Marine helicopter crash in Iraq kills 31

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- A Marine transport helicopter crashed during sandstorms in Iraq's western desert Wednesday, killing 31 troops, while insurgents killed six other American military personnel in the deadliest day for U.S. forces since the Iraq war began.

Panel confronts globalization issues

The IU Mortar Board National Senior Honor Society held a forum Tuesday night to discuss globalization, including topics concerning free trade and worldwide poverty. BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Iraqi security forces have arrested the "most lethal" top lieutenant of al-Qaida's leader in Iraq -- a man allegedly behind most of the car bombings in Baghdad since the U.S.-led invasion, including the 2003 assault on U.N. headquarters that killed 22 people, the prime minister's office said Monday.

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- The U.S. ambassador to Iraq acknowledged serious problems ahead of next weekend's election but assured on Sunday that "great efforts" were being made so every Iraqi can vote. In an audiotape posted on the Web, a speaker claiming to be Iraq's most-feared terrorist declared "fierce war" on democracy, raising the stakes in the vote.
